چکیده

The paper gives an analysis of acoustic-emission signals measured in the course of laser cutting of steels plates DC04 and X5CrNi18-10. Laser cutting is a process in which there can be a wide range of cutting parameters, but nevertheless cutting of plate products can be accomplished. Within the range of the parameters concerned, however, the quality of a cut edge can vary quite strongly; laser-beam power density, cutting speed and consumption of cutting oxygen are closely related to the cost-effectiveness of the cutting process. The research was focused on laser cutting of steel plate DC04 and of austenitic stainless steel plate X5CrNi18-10 of 1.5 mm in thickness, which is frequently used in the production of body components in automotive industry. AE signals captured and measured with a PZT contact sensor during laser cutting can provide useful information for the assessment of laser-cut quality. Similarly AE bursts sensed after laser cutting give a good insight into the laser-cut quality. A use of AE measurement during laser cutting of a deep-drawn mudguard is described as well.

Quality assessment of a laser cut based on captured acoustic emission signals

The paper presents results of an analysis of acoustic emission (AE) measurement in laser cutting of a DC04 steel plate. Laser cutting was evaluated on the basis of monitoring the acoustic emission in the course of cutting and of an analysis of events occurring in the material after the completion of laser cutting. It was found that the cutting oxygen flow was the primary source of AE in laser c...

AE signals as laser cutting quality indicators

The paper presents results of an analysis of acoustic emission (AE) signals obtained during laser cutting of a steel plate, which is frequently used in the production of automotive body components. The acoustic emission in the plate, which is produced by various physical phenomena occurring during the laser cutting process, was measured with contact PZT sensors. During the laser cutting process...

Acoustic Emission as an Indicator of Laser-cutting Quality

The paper presents results of an analysis of acoustic emission (AE) signals captured in the course of laser cutting of a steel sheet, and the analysis of the signals characteristic of particular phenomena occurring after the cutting process. In the course of cutting, continuous signals, which are related to the quality achieved of the laser cut, are measured. After laser cutting characteristic ...

Study of the Frictional Surface Damage Using Acoustic Emission Method

In this study, the change at rubbing surfaces has been investigated experimentally using an acoustic emission signal monitoring system. A steel ring is slipped on the surface of  a metallic sheet to simulate frictional conditions. The mechanical disturbances caused by the movement of the ring produce stress waves propagating along the sheet surface. The out of plane displacement of the sheet su...
